The flag of South Korea, also known as the Taegukgi, features a white background with a red and blue circle in the center. The circle is divided into two halves, with the upper blue half symbolizing the negative cosmic forces of the yin and the lower red half symbolizing the positive cosmic forces of the yang. In the center of the circle is a black trigram, taken from the I Ching, an ancient Chinese divination book representing heaven, earth, and humanity. The flag’s design was officially adopted on October 15, 1949, and has remained unchanged. The flag symbolizes the balance and unity of the Korean people and the ideals of justice and peace.
