Guinea’s national flag was officially embraced on November 10, 1958, coinciding with the release of the country’s inaugural Constitution. The color scheme of the flag was drawn from the Rassemblement Démocratique Africain, the prevailing movement during the period of independence. These colors, in turn, were inspired by the flag of Ghana, which had previously adopted them in 1957. Sékou Touré, Guinea’s inaugural President, shared a close association with Kwame Nkrumah, the former President of Ghana.
